Let's start with a checklist:

  1. Are you an SCCA member? If not, click Here to join.
  2. If you are 15-18 years old, you will need to complete the Minor Release and Waiver form and a Minor’s Assumption of Risk Acknowledgement form. These can be digitally downloaded at SCCA Membership Services.
  3. To obtain a competition license, there are options from which you can choose.
    • Do you have auto racing experience, or a license from another organization? If currently licensed by another club, it may qualify you for an SCCA license Full Comp License. Jon Becker the NORPAC Drivers Licensing Administrator can review your racing resume and determine if you qualify to skip school and receive a full comp license waiver (See below, SCCA Website.)
    • Complete an SCCA Drivers' School. They can be found on the SCCA website but will require travel. Check the Schedule on this website for dates. If you are unable to attend, contact the SFR SCCA office to inquire about alternative schools.
    • You will be required to have a Novice permit, Physical, and a qualified (SCCA legal) racing car for School. To obtain these forms, either contact the San Francisco Region office at office@sfrscca.org or download all the needed documents, following the checklist on the SCCA Website.
  4. Driver's Safety Gear. You will need to obtain the following items which are approved in the GCR (see GCR Section 9.3.19): Cars and Rules.
    • Helmet
    • Head and Neck Restraint (HANS device)
    • Driver's Suit
    • Shoes
    • Fireproof Underwear
    • Gloves
  5. Do you own your race car?…or would you like to rent a race car?
    • Your race car must conform to the "General Competition Rules" (GCR), which govern all aspects of SCCA on-track events. It must also pass a technical inspection prior to the event weekend.
    • Well in advance of the event, please contact an approved inspector. Please review our services for Travel Tech or email the Chief of Tech Stephanie Helberg at stephanie@wavesofspirit.com.
    • If you would prefer to rent a race car, there are many options and price ranges to choose from. For starters, please review the Prep Shop Services and Rental Car Options.
 

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

 

Schedule of Events: always posted on our website here.  Please pick up your Driver School Schedule when you register for the event.

What to Bring: We do not have to warn you that any day spent outdoors in California may not always be warm and sunny especially in the month of February - bring sunscreen, a hat, rain protection, bug spray, water, and ear plugs! Food is available at the Thunderhill Café. Workers, drivers, and crew are invited to a free Saturday night dinner.

Registration: If you plan on spectating, registration will not be necessary. However, if you plan to volunteer or drive a car in the event, then advanced registration is MANDATORY. The club uses a third-party system where you will set up a free user account and submit your registration: MotorsportReg.

 
   

 READY TO GO Competition Licensing School?

 

Drivers' School Students must complete several pre-study assignments prior to the drivers' school weekend. Please read and complete following:

  1. Read New Driver/Minor Driver Information
  2. Download The General Competition Rules for reference.
  3. Fill out Student Driver Profile, here is the attachment Student Driver Profile.docx  and return to office@sfrscca.org
  4. Complete Online Ground School @ SCCA Academy

    1. Print your 'Certificate of Completion' and email a copy to office@sfrscca.org
  1. Complete The open-book GCR exam, here is the attachment GCR Test.doc. Email document to office@sfrscca.org.
  2. Complete The open-book Flag Test, here is the attachment Flag Test.doc. Email document to office@sfrscca.org.   
  3. Student Handbook is attached for your review Student Handbook.doc.

Event requirements

You should already have an SCCA Membership before you begin the entry process. If you do not, you can join at www.scca.com - click the Join Now button. Write down your membership number so you can include it on the entry information.

You should already be working on obtaining your Novice Permit from SCCA National. The process to get a Novice Permit is described on the announcement page for the school. You cannot attend the school without a Novice Permit, even if you complete this entry process.

MotorsportReg Account, if you do not already have a MotorsportReg account, please follow the steps below to create your account this first time. Next time you enter, just log into your account and future entries for SFR events will be quick and painless!

  1. If you do not already have one, create an account on MotorsportReg.com after reading these steps.
  2. Once logged in, click "My Account" in the top right
  3. Review your vehicle(s), making sure to enter your permanent/preferred numbers and your transponder number if you have one. If you do not have a vehicle yet. Type in the word "Fake" for the make and dream a little about the car you have always wanted. We will adjust this as time goes by with the correct information. 
  4. Now come back to this page and enter the event and pay online.

If you have technical issues with online entry for the event on MotorsportReg.com, you can contact their customer support during normal business hours at +1 888-242-9684 or by email here and click "Contact" in the top right corner. 

Transponder numbers are required for ALL CARS.  If you do not have a transponder listed in your vehicle profile, you MUST rent one.

Sound limit of 103.9 db will be enforced for all sessions.

All drivers must still go through on-site registration at the track.
